Our new Paso Robles winery complements our original winery with a specific focus on small lots of Paso Robles-grown Bordeaux varietals, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The winery, which is located at the corner of Highway 46 East and Airport Road near downtown Paso Robles, features a tasting room, barrel cellar, enclosed patio, estate vineyard and terraced gardens with picnic accommodations. The two-level masonry-based design is a fresh interpretation of the Santa Ynez Valley winery, including a similarly distinctive roofline. Initial production is 4,000 cases annually. Winery Story
Firestone Vineyard Paso Robles, which opened in early 2007, is an extension of the Firestone family’s growing commitment to the Paso Robles area. Firestone Vineyard purchased Paso Robles fruit for several vintages, and the quality of the resulting wines ignited the idea of establishing the new winery. Additionally, our affiliated Firestone Walker Brewing Company relocated its brewing operations to Paso Robles in 2001. The Paso Robles winery, which is managed by Andrew Firestone, ultimately represents a new chapter in Firestone Vineyard’s multigenerational winemaking tradition on the Central Coast.
Appellation
Paso Robles resides 25 miles inland from the coast between Los Angeles and San Francisco in northern San Luis Obispo County. The coastline is bordered by the Santa Lucia Mountains, which insulate the Paso Robles region and trap heat during the daytime. Each evening, however, coastal air billows through the Templeton Gap, a notch in the coastal mountains. This climate pattern is ideal for Bordeaux varietals, with considerable solar energy to develop fully defined flavors and sufficient natural cooling to maintain excellent structure and balance.
