Winemaker’s Tasting Notes
Our 2005 Gewürztraminer comes from our estate vineyards in Santa Ynez Valley, where coastal breezes lengthen the growing season and nurture the varietal's distinctive qualities. The 2005 vintage begins with pretty aromas of Mandarin orange, litchi and rose petal. A medium-bodied palate offers flavors of pear and grapefruit with hints of nutmeg spice. Bright acidity harnesses a trace of sweetness for a clean, refreshing finish.

Winemaking
A wet winter inspired a healthy crop in 2005. Warm temperatures in July provided beneficial wine stress and vigor control, and moderate fall weather ensured ample hang time. The grapes were picked in the cool morning hours on September 20 and September 21. Inert gas was employed as a buffer to prevent oxidation from destemming through crushing. The wine was cold fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve the varietal's complex aromatics and bright fruit flavors.
Cuisine Pairing
The 2005 Gewürztraminer pairs well with a wide variety of cuisine, including moderately spicy Thai and Indian dishes, pork loin, roast turkey and pasta salad with orange vinaigrette.
