2004 SYRAH - Santa Ynez Valley

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes
Our 2004 Syrah offers deep black fruit aromas with hints of caramel, vanilla and juniper berry. A full, juicy texture unfolds with flavors of blackberry and raspberry while a subtle smoky quality adds complexity to the palate. Accents of mocha and white pepper accompany smooth, supple tannins on a long finish.

Kevin Willenborg, Winemaker

Winemaking
Our 2004 Syrah was harvested entirely from the Firestone Vineyard estate in the Santa Ynez Valley, with selected blocks hand picked over the first three weeks of October as they reached peak ripeness. Each lot was cold soaked for seven days prior to fermentation to ensure ample flavor extraction and a supple tannin profile. The wine was aged for 15 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. The French oak lent structure and complexity, while the American oak contributed sweeter vanilla components.

Cuisine Pairing
The rich black fruit flavors and exotic nuances of our 2004 Syrah are a perfect match for flavorful medium-weight fare, including roasted rack of lamb with rosemary, garlic and juniper berry; peppered filet mignon with mushrooms; and pesto-based pastas.
